Last night, La Cigale in Paris hosted the third global Smirnoff Experience event, showcasing a dream collaboration between Mark Ronson and Duran Duran. The musicians performed for a star-studded crowd including, Eva Mendes, Philippe Starck, John Galliano, Ellen Von Unwerth, Santogold, Kenna, Tim Burgess, Yasmin Le Bon and Daisy Lowe. During the 90-minute performance the crowd enjoyed specially created versions of classic Duran Duran tracks. The collaboration came about when Smirnoff invited Ronson to bring his unique perspective to the Duran Duran catalogue, forming the centrepiece of this latest Smirnoff Experience event. Smirnoff Experience is a global experiential marketing program, celebrating the brand’s rich heritage and originality. The program features original collaborations fused with unique and interactive entertainment – all showcased in four of the cities most relevant to the history of the brand: Moscow, Shanghai, Paris and New York City.

6/9/2008Fischerspooner will be using an exhibition space in the Palais Des Beaux Arts to publicly rehearse and develop their new large-scale performance piece. A schedule will be posted and museumgoers are invited to watch the creation of a work-in-progress. What happens in the exhibition space will change from day to day: people will round the corner and see dancers writing choreography, musicians arranging parts for a song, technicians experimenting with effects. Other times the entire cast and crew may be simply reviewing footage of their work or arguing the philosophy of what they are doing. Incorporating music from their forthcoming album Entertainment and using inspirations as diverse as the early years of the U.S. space program and Japanese theatre, the unfolding process will be a fetishization of artistic creation in all its spontaneity, mundanity, and immediacy. The room itself will physically evolve over the course of the three weeks as an installation of inspirations and references are pasted up on walls, wardrobe is hung around the room, and various ephemera collect in this utopic artistic workshop. But within the physical room is the real installation: living, breathing artistic people going through the birthing process of a new work in a public environment. The exhibition is presently scheduled to take place from June 20, 2008 through July 10, 2008 at the CFA. 6/9/2008With their ‘RED CARPET MASSACRE WORLD TOUR’ now underway, in support of the release of their 12th studio album, musical innovators DURAN DURAN today announced details of an extensive 30 date European run that will begin in Brussels, Belgium on June 18th and end in early August on the Mediterranean coast. Taking in more than 30 cities across 16 countries, the four original members of Duran Duran: Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes, Roger Taylor and John Taylor will take Europe by storm with a spectacular new production that showcases their latest record, alongside all of the fan-favorites from their vast catalogue of hits. This upcoming leg of the tour will see the group’s first performances in continental Europe since the release of Red Carpet Massacre (Epic Records), which the band launched in November ‘07 with an unprecedented Broadway residency at New York’s Ethel Barrymore Theatre . In a bold move, Duran Duran performed the new record in its entirety to sold-out houses every night for two weeks on The Great White Way, prior to the album’s global launch. Encouraged by the enthusiastic response from fans and critics alike, the band are now taking a specially tailored version of this three-act show on the road around the world, starting in New Zealand, where they kicked off the tour a week ago. Tickets for all of the shows on this upcoming run will go on sale to the public over the next couple of weeks as details of each concert are announced. Prior to that, Duran Duran’s fan community will be offering both exclusive pre-sale opportunities and VIIP packages for members . Members should visit www.duranduranmusic.com for details. RED CARPET MASSACRE marks an all-time creative high for the band, who wrote and recorded this ground-breaking album with producers Timbaland and Nate ‘Danja’ Hills, alongside today’s reigning king of pop, Justin Timberlake. Garnering them some of their best reviews to date RCM has been described as “… a stroke of lightning captured on record… a triumph, a marvel, and a hell of a lot of fun.” (Nylon Magazine); while others have declared that “Something has clicked in the Duran world; they haven’t sounded this visceral and unapologetic since 1982’s RIO” (Orlando Weekly). “Sexy is back… and it’s got a posh English accent” (Blackbook). During an illustrious career spanning three decades, Duran Duran have remained at the forefront of popular music, consistently pushing the creative envelope and breaking new ground. Since their inception, the band have sold over 70 million albums, recorded countless hit records, received numerous accolades, and have been presented with no fewer than five prestigious “Lifetime Achievement” awards since 2002 (MTV Video Music Award, Q Magazine, The BRITS, Ivor Novello, Spanish Ondas). Speaking backstage from their concert in Melbourne, Australia today, Duran Duran front-man Simon LeBon said how much they were looking forward to performing again in Europe with a new show after a two year absence. “These are going to be extremely exciting shows for us”, he said, “taking a very different format to the last world tour we did in 2006. We are introducing a lot of new elements into the mix - both musically and in terms of the staging. We have been working on completely different arrangements for some of the older material and will be integrating a lot of our latest record into the performances. We need to keep things fresh – not only for ourselves, but also for our audiences, who can be assured of a lot of surprises with this new production.” * * * * * * * * * * * * Tickets will be available from xx at xx am GMT to members of the Duran Duran fan community.
